Pathways Gateway to Mount Everest, pathways to kinship. By Peter Laurenson

This is not a guidebook. This is a real-life story about a unique and special place, experienced in a rare way, over a period that is unlikely to ever be the same again.

For over three decades, New Zealand photographer Peter Laurenson repeatedly visited Khumbu, the Nepalese gateway to Mount Everest and home to the Sherpa people. On his second visit, a chance meeting with a Sherpa family sparked a friendship that grew stronger as he brought his three sons, each in turn when they turned 15, to trek through this enchanted region.

Description

Since his first backpacking trip away from New Zealand in 1988, Peter Laurenson has visited many mountainous parts of the world, but none have had such an impact on him as Nepal. The website www.occasionalclimber.co.nz showcases his mountain and travel adventures. In 2013 he published his first book Occasional Climber: A Journey to Mount Clarity. He is editor of the Federated Mountain Clubs’ Backcountry. He also writes for Wilderness magazine, NZ Photographer and other publications.
